How to Include Your Pets in Your Wedding

For many couples, pets are more than just animals—they're family. "Fur babies," is a nickname for a reason! If you can't imagine saying "I do" without your furry (or feathered) friend by your side, you're not alone! Including pets in your wedding day can add a personal and heartwarming touch to your celebration, and make a special day even more tailored to you and your family. Whether they make a grand entrance or provide quiet moral support, here are some fun and practical ways to involve them in your big day.

1. Make Them Part of the Ceremony

One of the most popular ways to include pets in weddings is by giving them a special role. Some ideas include:

  • Ring Bearer: Attach the rings to a secure, pet-friendly pillow or a custom harness.
  • Flower Pup: Decorate their collar with flowers to match your bouquet.
  • Escort Down the Aisle: Have them walk with you, your partner, or a special guest.

2. Include Them in Your Photos

Even if your pet isn’t comfortable in a crowd, they can still be part of your special day through photos. Plan a pre-ceremony or engagement shoot featuring your furry friend for lasting memories. Bonus tip: Have treats on hand to keep their attention during the session!

3. Dress Them for the Occasion

A stylish bowtie, floral crown, or even a tiny tuxedo can make your pet look extra adorable. Be sure to choose comfortable, pet-safe accessories that won’t cause irritation or overheating.

4. Feature Them in Your Décor & Details

Not all pets are suited for a big wedding crowd, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be involved! Consider incorporating them in:

  • Custom Cake Toppers featuring a miniature version of your pet.
  • Wedding Invitations & Signage with paw print accents or illustrations.
  • Signature Cocktails named after your pets, like "Milo’s Mule" or "Bella’s Breeze."
  • Printed Napkins with your pets faces and names on them!
  • Printed Portraits of your pet--a small print for your sweetheart table, or a large print on a stick to hold up during the dancing portion of your reception!

5. Arrange for a Pet Sitter

Weddings can be overwhelming for animals, so having a trusted pet sitter on-site ensures your furry friend is cared for when needed. They can handle potty breaks, water, and a quiet space if the excitement gets too much.

6. Have a Backup Plan

Even the best-behaved pets can be unpredictable. Be sure to have a plan in case they get nervous or decide to steal the show in unexpected ways. A designated handler (like a friend or pet professional) can help manage any surprises.

7. Consider a Pet-Friendly Venue

Not all wedding venues allow animals, so check policies ahead of time. Outdoor locations, private estates, and barn venues are often more accommodating for four-legged guests. Thinking of a micro-wedding? Check out Airbnbs or other similar private property rentals for additional options!

8. Honor Them in Spirit

If your beloved pet can’t be there in person, consider ways to honor them:

  • Wearing a locket with their photo.
  • Saving a special seat with their picture.
  • Making a donation to an animal shelter in their name.

Including Your Pet in Your Wedding Day

Your wedding day should reflect what’s most important to you, and for many couples, that includes their pets! With a little planning and creativity, you can make sure your furry companion is part of your special celebration in a way that’s comfortable and stress-free for both of you.
