Lord of the Rings Inspired Wedding in Southern Maine | August 16th, 2025


Grace + Chris' wedding day was nothing less than a fairytale, or should I say, a Hobbit's tale. They celebrated their wedding with their family and favorite people at their colorful and nerdy celebration at The Greenhouse at Highland Farm in Maine. The couple planned a day filled with personal touches, from Lord of the Rings inspired signage and decor to hand-mined rocks from one of their rockhounding adventures. From start to finish, their celebration captured their spirits, wrapped in joy, love, and the breathtaking scenery of summer in Maine.


The Venue: The Greenhouse at Highland Farm | Scarborough, Maine


Just a short drive from Portland, Maine, The Greenhouse at Highland Farm is a magical and one-of-a-kind wedding venue in southern Maine. It’s an ideal choice for couples who value florals, love the outdoors, and want an intimate celebration in a truly unique setting. The field ceremony site is especially lovely, and the nearby covered greenhouse pavilion serves as both a great rain backup and a perfect spot for your reception. The property also provides countless photo opportunities, from the field during golden hour, a weeping willow tree, and all of the greenhouses and raised beds filled with blooming flowers.


Lord of the Rings Inspired Wedding in Southern Maine | The Story


Grace and Chris began their day getting ready in separate locations, surrounded by their siblings who made up their wedding party. Grace spent the morning at the attached home at the flower nursery at Highland Farm, while Chris got ready nearby at an Airbnb. Grace wore a gown with intricate lace details that felt straight out of a fairytale, while Chris and his wedding party looked sharp in suits inspired by the cozy, classic style of hobbits from Lord of the Rings.


Their ceremony took place at a beautiful Catholic church in Portland, Maine, and was filled with meaningful readings, rituals, and deep intention. Afterward, everyone made their way to The Greenhouse at Highland Farm for cocktail hour and the start of the celebration. During the reception, Chris shared an incredibly special dance with his great grandmother to the song she had danced to at her own wedding — a moment that had everyone misty-eyed.


As the sun began to set, we snuck away for golden hour portraits among the flower-filled greenhouses, including some epic photos with a Witch King sword straight out of Lord of the Rings. The reception space was bursting with vibrant color — pinks, blues, purples, and rich burgundy tones — and the couple wowed everyone with a beautifully choreographed first dance. Guests enjoyed multiple cakes decorated with fresh florals to match the day’s blooms, and the night ended with a joyful streamer exit as Grace and Chris rode off in a stretch limo.
