Witchy Autumn Equinox Wedding | September 21st, 2024
Joey and Rose embraced the magic of fall in Vermont by celebrating their love with a witchy wedding at Millstone Hill in Barre, Vermont. The couple's day was filled with personal touches, from hosting their ceremony in a circle of flowers set with spells and good intentions, to homemade moon calendars and moon-themed tables. Their day was a true reflection of their personalities, with every moment filled with enchantment, romance and love.
The Venue: Millstone Hill | Barre, VT
Located just south of Montpelier, Millstone Hill is one of my favorite non-traditional wedding venues in Vermont. With an eclectic rustic barn for the reception to their beautiful mountain views on the hill, the venue offers picturesque spots for photos. It's also located just up the road from the famous Rock of Ages quarry--which gives couples ample opportunities for photo locations for just married portraits. The reception barn is ideal for celebrating with loved ones, with multi-level seating and a unique atmosphere providing a perfect blend of rustic and non-traditional.
Witchy Autumn Equinox Wedding | The Story
Rose and Joey began their day at The Lodge, surrounded by their coven of witches and parents as they got ready --taking turns steaming each others garments and doing each others makeup. Rose looked stunning in a custom-made dress she found on Etsy and embroidered cowboy boots, while Joey was equally dressed up in a green suit and vintage bolo tie.
The ceremony took place in a circle of florals at the field overlooking the Mountain Vista, where the ceremony witches welcomed their guests into the circle with handwritten notes to the newlyweds and a ring warming ritual. The circle was then set with a salt pouring and bone dragging. The couple processed together with their parents, meeting in the middle and embracing with joy. Joey and Rose then walked together into the circle towards the altar and the sound of their siblings singing and playing guitar. After a bay leaf burning and readings from their coven, the couple—both writers and poets—shared the most beautiful vows I've ever heard, with every single guest in the audience crying.
After their ceremony completed, the couple ran off into the distance with their dog Pip by their side. They returned to their guests waving and smiling. After group photos, we snuck away down the road to explore the nearby slate quarries for their just married portraits. We got stunning and dramatic portraits against the quarries and rocky landscapes with the sunset in the background.
The reception was a delightful affair, with speeches from friends and family before a feast for all the guests. After dinner and a bell ringing, a delicious cake made by Goosechase Cake Design was cut and shared by all. Rose and Joey danced the night away to their favorite songs, with fantastic cocktails and a bonfire to end the night.
Congratulations Joey and Rose on your magical witchy Vermont wedding! Wishing you all the best in the many years of love ahead.
